My 76 non master Marshall has more sustain less dynamics Apr 20, 2023 · The Hiwatt cabinet design lends to a deeper low end and fuller midrange sound with smoother highs that tames the bright Hiwatt sound while still cutting through IMO. it's a used 1x12 combo from the 80's (my best guess) with a Fane speaker. The Fanes are part of the equation and sound very deep and warm and work great with the spikey tone. Didn't get much, if any, cleans out of it. They did tweak it to allow for a cleaner sound with the gain rolled back. The Tweed Bassman RI or LTD are widely available used and are great amps for clean and crunch, but they are big and loud if you want the distortion to come from. I was playing my Hiwatt at band rehearsal last weekend, which is much louder than I usually play by myself, and the JJs started playing to buzz and squeal. From Hiwatt is more percussive and faster with less sustain. I recently had a pair of JJ 6CA7s fail after not that many hours.
